Riding buddies Gerry, Ross, and Leo rode with me to Hood River then I headed East to Elgin, Or and they took the Glenwood loop back toward Vancouver.
After leaving the guys, I road part of the Old Columbia River highway from Mosier, OR to The Dalles. Very curvy, great view, always a nice ride.
After that I began heading SE on Hwy 206 toward Condon, Or where I fueled up the bike and had lunch at the little drive-in there.
Food is goood and the service is great.
Some of the roads leading out to Condon are wide open and pretty straight. I got to stretch my FJR's legs a bit. Made me love the bike even more!
Unfortunately the 40 mile section of the Wasco-Heppner highway had been recently chip-sealed. There was gravel everywhere, not just the typical right hand corner. Had to knock her down a notch or two, especially in the curves. I way a little bummed as that road has some great sweapers interupted by the occasional 20-30 mph twisty where the road dips down into a draw. It'll be better in another month or so.
I stopped in Ukiah and was happy to see that Dan's service was still open. Dan and his Mom were still there and I enjoyed chatting with them for a few minutes. The other gas station in town went out of business and I'm sure that benefits them pretty well. Good people!
From Ukiah I took Forest Service roads further SE toward Granite, OR, then took the turn to go up over Anthony Lakes ski area.
Great road down the hill from Anthony Lakes. Lots of curves and great pavement.
I ended up in Elgin, Or for the night. Staying at the Stampede Inn, and ate dinner at Sigs restaurant. Like the last time Amanda and I came thru here, Sigs has an awesome hand-cut ribeye that grew up just a few miles from here. All for $22. Would have been a $40 steak in Portland....just a great dinner out here!
